How do you see the world? Is it a place full of problems and people you don’t like? Is it a place full of possibility and potential? Some combination of the two?
However we choose to see the world, we will function accordingly. We make choices about people and things based on how we see them. If I believe people are basically bad, I will likely approach people with caution, if I approach them at all. If I believe people are gifted and beautiful, I will likely approach them with an open heart. In either case, how I interact, and subsequently how they interact with me, is directly related to how I choose to see them.
Have you ever noticed that the more you dwell on the negative, the more negativity comes your way? Have you ever tried the opposite? Perhaps you’ve tried focusing on the positive, only to have challenging things still confront you. Did this prove to you that positive thinking is bunk? Did you tell yourself that world is difficult and problematic, and no amount of positive thinking mumbo jumbo is going to change it?
You aren’t going to live in a world without problems. They are part of existing in this space. At the same time, you live in a world full of beauty. Amazing people and things are around you at all times. Are you looking for them? Or are you looking for the problems? Whichever you want to find, you will find, and your beliefs will be reinforced in either direction. Living in a world with challenges no more negates the positive things in the world than living in a world with beauty negates the ugly things.
They both exist. On which will you choose to focus?
